8 Day walking and canoeing - The adrenalin rush

This is for the purist who wants to feel the dust on his cloths and the odd thorn in his feet. It's all about being close to nature at "ground level". Led by a fully qualified pro guide this includes 3 days walking in Hwange and 3 days walking and canoeing on the lower Zambezi.

The first night is spent at the small and personal Ilala Lodge in Victoria Falls, spend the afternoon and evening at leisure – exploring the famous falls and town named after it.

It's an early pick up the following day for your road transfer to Hwange where you meet your professional guide and pre erected "luxury camp" at one of the private wilderness campsites. Spend the next 3 nights here, exploring the area on foot. Your pro guide is armed and knows the area like the back of his hand. Should you cut spoor and want to get closer - its hats on and grab your water bottle. This is a game experience in the rawest sense. Whether you are lucky and manage to track right up to the animal or perhaps you are too far behind to catch up, regardless of this, your senses will be concentrated, the feeling of excitement and anticipation unrivalled, and your soul and mind awakened. For more information on camping style safaris and what to expect.

From your wilderness campsite in Hwange it is a two hour drive back to Hwange airport before catching your charter flight to Mana Pools. On arrival you will be met by the guys from Vundu camp – one of the best known lodges in this remarkable area. For the next 3 nights at Vundu, a typical day starts with a cup of coffee and a light breakfast before heading out in the Land Rover. The vehicles are used to get to a predestined area for a walk , or until they find fresh tracks of something interesting and then these are then followed on foot , maybe lions, wild dogs, a large herd of buffalo or walk up to some of the big old elephant bulls for which Mana is famous.

After our morning activities you head back to camp for lunch, followed by a short siesta. Canoeing on the river follows afternoon tea, this adds a totally new dimension to getting "up close and personal". Unless you are experienced paddlers we recommend that you don't share a canoe with your spouse or loved one – the divorce rate is just not worth it! Canoeing is certainly a highlight as it is a unique activity to view wildlife from the river and there are not many places in the world where one can do so - especially not with the abundance of wild life and spectacular scenery of Mana Pools .
