The Icehotel and Norwegian Fjords

Day 1: Welcome to Bergen - Capital of the Fjords

Your holiday begins at Bergen Airport, where you are welcomed by a local representative and transferred to your hotel in the city centre of the “Capital of the Fjords.” If you arrive early, we recommend getting the Bergen Card, which provides free travel on public transport, free admission to museums and discounts on further attractions, sightseeing tours, restaurants and shops.

Spend the night in central Bergen.

Day 2: Bergen Sightseeing & Coastal Voyage

Despite its status as Norway’s second largest city, Bergen still has the atmosphere and charm of a small town. Here you’ll find Bryggen, listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage site, along with exceptionally preserved old houses, a lively fish market, cable cars offering stunning views, great museums and much more. In the evening you’ll embark on the Hurtigruten Coastal Voyage, offering incredible views along the fjord-studded coastline as you head towards the Lofoten Islands.

Spend the next three nights on board the ship in a comfortable outside cabin with private facilities.

Day 3: Maløy - Torvik - Ålesund - Molde - Kristiansund

Among the highlights of today’s journey are the Art Nouveau town of Ålesund and the UNESCO World Heritage site of Geirangerfjord. The ship also passes snow-capped mountains and magnificent waterfalls, such as the Seven Sisters and Bridal Veil, as it navigates from one fjord to another. Optional shore excursions are available today.

Day 4: Trondheim - Rorvik

Early in the morning the ship docks at the historic city of Trondheim, where you have about 3.5 hours to explore the city on your own or take an optional sightseeing tour. Trondheim is the original capital of Norway, and until the 16th century, it was known as Nidaros. Here you will find the Nidaros Cathedral, one of Scandinavia’s largest buildings from the Middle Ages, along with picturesque little wooden houses. From Trondheim, the ship sails onwards to Rorvik.

Day 5: Ornes - Bodø - Stamsund - Svolvær

Today you’ll cross the Arctic Circle as the ship heads to the beautiful Lofoten Islands. This leg of the voyage offers spectacular sights, including small islands and skerries with peculiar rock formations, whose origins are the stuff of legend. In the evening, the ship reaches Svolvaer, the main community of the Lofoten Islands, where the coastal voyage comes to an end.

Spend the night in Svolvaer.

Day 6: Journey to the Norwegian town of Narvik

In the morning, board the bus for the 4-hour journey to Narvik. This is a wonderful opportunity to relax and enjoy the rugged, mountainous scenery that makes Norway a favourite among travellers.

Spend the night in Narvik.

Day 7: Train to Kiruna and Northern Lights Safari

Start the day with a train ride from Narvik to Kiruna, where you are greeted by a local guide and transferred to your hotel in Kiruna, Sweden’s northernmost city. As dusk settles, the guide will lead you on an exciting snowmobile safari into the wild for a chance to see the magical Northen Lights*. Enjoy an authentic Lappish dinner prepared by the guide before returning to the hotel.

Spend the night in Kiruna.

* Please note that the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) are a natural phenomenon and therefore sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Day 8: ICEHOTEL Tour & Sami Reindeer Farm Visit

Begin the day with a guided tour of the ICEHOTEL and Ice Chapel in nearby Jukkasjärvi. Afterwards, in the early afternoon, take a short walk to a reindeer farm, where you get to taste a traditional Lappish snack in a Sami lavvu and try your hand at driving a reindeer sled! This farm visit also provides an exceptional opportunity to learn about the daily lives and history of the native Sami people.

Spend another night in Kiruna.

Day 9: Husky Sled Ride & Departure

Start the day with a thrilling dogsled ride though the breathtaking Lapland wilderness. A skilled dogsled guide will mush you through the woods and over the plains while you can just six back and relax and enjoy the nature. Afterwards, relax with a coffee during a break around the campfire. At 13:00 you will be transferred to the airport for your departure flight home.
