The Catalan St. James Path

The Catalan St. James Path is a historically documented route of the pilgrims. The route begins in Sant Pere de Rodes. It follows via the Montserrat monastery to Alcarràs (Lleida), where the road then leads into the region of Aragon.

Day 1: ARRIVAL SANT PERE DE RODES. Afternoon arrival in Sant Pere de Rodes and visit of the Benedictine monastery. This monastery is also a home to a study center with the same name. As well, one of the seats of the nature park organisation is housed here. The majestic architecture and the beauty of the location, overlooking the entire peninsula of Cap de Creus, make the tour of the facility to a real feast for the senses. Dinner and overnight on the Costa Brava.

Day 2: SANT PERE DE RODES, VILABERTRAN, FIGUERES, GIRONA 72 km. After breakfast we drive to Vilabertran, with a visit to the convent of Santa Maria. We continue to Figueres, birthplace of the artist Salvador Dalí. After a city tour on foot we will visit the Dalí Museum, which was founded by the artist himself. We continue to Girona. Among the highlights in Girona are the narrow streets and imposing fortress, as well as the early Gothic cathedral. Dinner and overnight stay in Girona.

Day 3: GIRONA, VIC, LESTANY, MANRESA - 133 km. In the morning we visit the imposing cathedral of Vic, as well as the Bishop's Palace, right next to the cathedral. We continue to L'Estany, only 23 km from Vic. L'Estany is one of the highest points of the Catalan St. James Path. Short walk through this beautiful village and visit of the monastery of Santa Maria de l'Estany. On the way to Manresa we stop at Sant Fruitós de Bages to visit the monastery Sant Benet. Dinner and overnight at Manresa.

Day 4: MANRESA, MONTSERRAT, TÀRREGA - 106 km. After breakfast follows a tour of Manresa with visit of the Basilica of Santa Maria de la Seu. We continue to Montserrat where we visit the monastery. In the Basilica of Montserrat, you can admire the statue of the patron saint of Catalonia, the Black Madonna (la Moreneta), and listen to the outstanding boys' choir "La Escolania. Then we drive to Tárrega for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: TARREGA, LLEIDA - 79 km. The day begins with a sightseeing tour of Tarrega. We continue to Lleida through small villages of the Catalan St James Path, sucha as Castellnou de Seana and Bell-lloc d'Urgell to Alcarràs, which is the last village of the road. Dinner and overnight stay in Lleida.

Day 6: LLEIDA, SOLSONA, OLOT - 230 km. After breakfast we visit the most important monuments of Lleida, as the old cathedral La Seu Vella, the new cathedral and the town hall "La Paeria". We continue to Solsona - the city of peace, with its many cobbled streets, arches, squares, houses and former palaces. Then we go on to Olot for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: OLOT. After breakfast, visit of the Natural Park of La Garrotxa" with its 40 volcanoes, which are considered to be inactive but not extinct. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner and overnight.

Day 8: OLOT, DEPARTURE After breakfast departure from Spain and return home.
