14 Day African Rhythms Safari

This adventure begins at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg and ends at King Shaka International Airport in Durban. (NOTE: A separate quote will be given for transfers and scheduled flights)

DAY 1 & 2: Johannesburg
On arrival at OR Tambo International Airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

Johannesburg, Africa’s second largest city, has many a traditional market, as well as exclusive boutiques, theatres, museums, cultural villages, restaurants, indigenous gardens and more.

Spend two nights in a luxury room at The Westcliff. Enjoy an authentic African dinner on your first night at Moyo Restaurant, Zoo Lake, and a ‘Tuk – Tuk” morning tour through Soweto, a trip down the old mine shaft, as well as a guided underground mine tour and afternoon spent at Gold Reef City Theme Park and Funfair on day two.

DAY 3 – 6: Cape Town
You will be transferred to O R Tambo International Airport, where you will board a flight to Cape Town International Airport. Upon arrival you will be met and driven to the Mount Nelson Hotel.

With Table Mountain at its heart and two oceans at its feet, the city of Cape Town lies spread between spectacular mountains and sandy beaches. Vibrant, cosmopolitan and an eclectic mix of old and new, this city is as much at home with its 17th century castle as it is with its skyscrapers and trendy malls.

Linger for four nights at the Mount Nelson Hotel. Enjoy a decadent afternoon tea at the hotel or perhaps a spa treatment or two in the afternoon on day three. Take the cable – car to the top of Table Mountain, enjoy Cape Town as a city on foot, stroll through the Company Gardens, sip coffee in one of the quaint coffee shops along Long Street and head off to the beach with a gournet picnic basket to watch the sun setting on the horizon on day four. On your fifth day you will visit a township with a local guide, partake in a drumming session, enjoy a delicious lunch in a local home and learn about the fascinating cheetah and eagle. On day six, visit the Hout Bay Harbour and climb onboard a boat to Seal Island. Visit the Cape Point Nature Reserve and ride the funicular to the upper station of Cape Point after which you will hop onto an inflatable canoe and experience up close encounters with penguins in their natural environment before a scrumptious three course dinner at Planet Restaurant, Mount Nelson Hotel.

DAY 7 & 8: Grootbos Nature Reserve
After a scrumptious breakfast enjoy a scenic drive to the Cape Whale Coast.

Unwind for two nights at Grootbos Private Nature Reserve. On day seven explore the ancient caves at Walker Bay with a local guide and enjoy a delicious sundowner on the beach. Day eight sees you setting sail on a boat trip in search of the magnificent southern right whale and other marine-life. During the afternoon, explore the nature reserve on a guided hike, 4×4 safari vehicle or on horseback – the choice of exploration means is all yours.

DAY 9 & 10: Ballito Bay
Board a flight to King Shaka International Airport for your onward journey to Ballito.

Enjoy two nights at the Fairmont Zimbali Lodge, a luxurious retreat with beautiful vistas and subtropical gardens. On your tenth day embark on a three hour guided cycle tour which includes visits to the World Cup Stadium, The Golden Mile, Durban beachfront, uShaka Marine World, the Bluff and Durban Harbour. Enjoy delectable delights en route such as Sunrise pastries, coffees and teas whilst taking in the beautiful Indian Ocean views. End the day with a little fun and relaxation on the beach at the lodge. Enjoy the remainder of your stay at leisure.

DAY 11 – 13: Phinda Game Reserve
Take a leisurely drive along the coast to Phinda Private Game Reserve.

Enjoy three nights in an air conditioned suite with plunge pool and romantic al fresco shower at Mountain Lodge. Adventures include twice-daily game drives, nature walks and riverboat cruises, as well as a family safari at Phinda. Enjoy a traditional African feast with a boma – style dinner on your eleventh night. Your twelfth day sees you venturing down the Mzinene River (dependant on water levels) at sunrise in a sturdy canoe enjoying the sights and sounds of the surrounding wilderness. On day thirteen enjoy a spectacular river cruise and breakfast on board the boat whilst watching meandering wildlife as you pass by.
