11 Day Forests, Trains and Beaches Safari

This safari begins at King Shaka International Airport in Durban and ends at Cape Town International Airport. (NOTE: A separate quote will be given for transfers and scheduled flights)

DAY 1 – 4: Phinda Game Reserve
On arrival at King Shaka International Airport you will be met and assisted with your onward journey to Phinda Private Game Reserve.

Within easy reach of the Indian Ocean, Phinda is known for abundant wildlife, diverse habitats and thrilling safaris. The Reserve contains seven distinct ecosystems, known as the ‘Seven Worlds of Wonder’. This variety of landscape shelters the Big Five, and many rarer and less easily spotted species, such as the elusive cheetah and scarce black rhino. The golden beaches of Sodwana Bay are nearby, with scuba diving, fishing and even turtle watching available.

Stay for four nights at Phinda Vlei Lodge. Your stay includes accommodation in a suite, three meals daily, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and beers, teas and coffees, scheduled safari activities, refreshments on game drives, nature walks (1 hour) accompanied by experienced armed trackers (subject to availability), emergency medical evacuation insurance and laundry.

DAY 5: Johannesburg
Make your way to the bustling city of Johannesburg where you will spend the night at Athol Place Boutique Hotel.

After a bawdy start as a tent and shanty town, Johannesburg today is the second largest city in Africa. Had it not been for the discovery of gold by prospector George Harrison though, the city probably wouldn’t even be in existence. Harrison, who pegged the first claim on the reef, sold it for just ₤10 and disappeared without a trace! Known as the greatest gold-mining area on earth, this vibrant city is not just an industrial giant, it is the heart of the country’s economy. From traditional ‘muti’ (medicine) shops, to exclusive boutiques in upmarket malls, theatres, museums, cultural villages, restaurants, beautiful walks in indigenous gardens and more, Johannesburg is a diverse cultural melting pot, deserving of its name ‘iGoli’ or ‘City of Gold’.

Your stay includes accommodation in a deluxe suite, breakfast, pre-dinner drinks & canapés, teas & coffees and water, wireless internet access, 24 hour room service, limited complimentary ironing and shoe shining service, wireless internet access.

DAY 6 & 7: Rovos Rail
Make your way to the city of Pretoria where you will climb on board the glamorous Rovos Rail at Capital Park Station.

Snaking through picturesque destinations, the Rovos Rail slows down the pace with dramatic vistas in superlative luxury. The train captures the romanticism of the colonial era with its beautifully restored engines and coaches. It has earned international acclaim for its world-class cuisine, five-star accommodation and choice of picturesque destinations and extraordinary travel packages.

Enjoy two nights in a Deluxe Suite with ensuite facilities on board the Rovos Rail. Your stay includes three superb meals daily, all alcoholic and other beverages, sightseeing excursions accompanied by a qualified tour guide, entrance fees to places of interest, 24 hour full room service and bar facilities as well as limited laundry service.

DAY 8 – 10: Cape Town
On arrival at Cape Town Station you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

Vibrant, cosmopolitan and an eclectic mix of old and new, Cape Town is as much at home with its 17th century castle as it is with its sleek skyscrapers and trendy malls. Home to South Africa’s first mosque, its oldest wine farm, a 350-year-old garden and timelessly beautiful beaches, it’s no surprise the legendary Flying Dutchman and his spectral ship have spent eternity sailing the city’s irresistible shores.

Indulge in three nights in a standard room at the Kensington Place. Your stay includes accommodation in a standard room, breakfast, champagne on arrival, bottle of wine in your room and a gift from the hotel.

DAY 11: Departure
Make your way to Cape Town International Airport where your adventure with us will end.
