Begin your day with a private tour of Lisbon, one of the oldest settlements in Europe.

Phoenicians, Romans, Visigoths and Moors appreciated it’s location on the estuary of the river Tejo. Among the sights you will see: São Jorge Castle, high on one of the city’s hills and the ancient Alfama district built by the Moors in their typical winding, narrow street pattern. The Portuguese Age of Discoveries in the 15th & 16th Centuries led to the building of the magnificent Monastery of Jerónimos, a splendid example of Portuguese Gothic style known as Manueline.
In the afternoon drive to Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, situated in beautiful wooded mountains to the west of Lisbon. Long a summer retreat for royalty and the wealthy, the city today is a charming collection of 19th Century chalets, villas and trendy shops. Visit the medieval Vila Palace, the summer residence of Portuguese kings and queens and an excellent display of the famous Portuguese glazed tiles known as “azuleijos”. You will notice these decorative tiles throughout your Portugal tour. Return to Lisbon along the coast, past the resort cities of Estoril and Cascais.
