ITINERARY

Day 1:                           
Arrival Frankfurt/Main
Welcome to Frankfurt, the metropolis at the banks of the river Main. Hotel check-in and time at your own disposal.

Day 2:                           
Frankfurt – Rüdesheim – Heidelberg (approx. 200km)  

After breakfast, your guide will take you on a sightseeing tour through Frankfurt am Main: You will start with a visit of the Römerberg and the over 600-year old town hall Römer, which has been the city`s center since medieval times and the coronation place of 10 German emperors, and proceed to the nearby Cathedral St. Bartholomäus, the largest sacral building of the city, before you visit St. Paul’s church. This site of the first German National Assembly (1848) has been destroyed during World War II and has been reconstructed 1947/48 as a symbol of German Democracy. A visit of the old opera house completes your tour and you will leave the metropolis of banking and finance for the wine-grower town Rüdesheim am Rhein. The town is situated picturesquely on the slopes of the Rhine valley amidst the vineyards of the Rheingau region and at the gate to the Lorelei valley. You will visit the famous Drosselgasse, the historic old town with its scenicstreets, as well the monument Niederwalddenkmal, the region`s landmark which was built in 1871. In the afternoon, you will take a romantic Lorelei boat trip on the Mittelrhein, which takes you along steep vineyards, winding villages, rugged rocks and the legendary Lorelei to St. Goarshausen. Continue to Heidelberg. The evening is open for your own explorations.

Day 3:                           
Heidelberg – Strasbourg – Freiburg (approx. 230km)
After breakfast, your guide will take you on a sightseeing tour through the oldest university town and without doubt one of the most beautiful places in  Germany: On your walk through the historical centre of Heidelberg, you will see the Old Bridge, the trail “Philosophenweg”, the old university assembly hall, the stables, the town hall, the knight, as well as the university library.
One of today`s highlights will be your visit of the Heidelberg castle. The symbol of this town, which is enthroned on the hill overlooking narrow alleys and picturesque old town rooftops, belongs to the most famous ruins of Germany. For ages, the complex of the castle was a symbol of rise and fall of the residency of Electoral Palatinate and a source of inspiration for many artists during romanticism. After this visit, you will continue to Strasbourg, the capital of the Alsace region, where your guide is awaiting you: See the well-preserved historic town center, which has been declared part of the UNESCO World Heritage in 1988; the monumental cathedral, which was finished in 1439 and is generally regarded as one of the most beautiful buildings in Gothic style; the most picturesque district of old Strasbourg “La Petite France”, where fishermen, millers and tanners used to work and live; the famous Maison Kammerzell; as well as the European district with its monumental glass buildings of the Council of Europe, the European Parliament and the European court of Human Rights. In the late afternoon, you will continue to Freiburg.

Day 4:                           
Freiburg – Zurich (approx. 150km)           
Today, you will start with a sightseeing tour through the most southern town of Germany: Visit the Freiburg Minster, which was built between 1200 - 1500 and is acknowledged by art historians all over the world as a splendid masterpiece of gothic architecture; the old town hall, which was assembled in 16th century from several old buildings; the new town hall, which is a modification of a semi-detached Renaissance building; the historical Münsterplatz and the enchanting Old Town.
Around noon, you will continue to Zurich, the largest Swiss city, where your guide is awaiting you for a sightseeing tour: You will see the Grossmünster, the symbol of Zurich with its two distinctive towers; the art house, the most important art gallery of the city; the Swiss National Museum with its outstanding cultural-historical collection; as well as the opera house and the town hall. The evening is open for your own explorations.

Day 5:                               
Departure

After breakfast and check-out, you will return home with many lasting memories.
