Salt & Che Tour 10 Days

This is a guided Motorcycle tour taking in some of Bolivia's  highlights including the amazing Salt Flats of Uyuni, the historical colonial cities of Sucre and Potosi and the less visited, off the beaten track "Che Route". Bolivia is a fantastic country to get out on the open road and see by motorcycle as outside of the cities the roads have very little traffic and the scenery is incredible.

Day 1 Cochabamba – Samaipata.  A reasonably long day to get us started but through spectacular scenery and a great road.  Our destination is the town of Samaipata, a sleepy village in the foothills of the Cordillera Oriental.

Day 2 REST – a day to explore Samaipata and the surrounding sites like the pre-incan “El Fuerte” fort

Day 3 Samaipata – La Higuera  – We will be well and truly on the Che Trail today.  We visit the town where Che’s body was displayed to the world in a hospital laundry proving once and for all that he was dead.  We also check out the secret burial site where his body lay for 30 years before a soldier revealed its whereabouts and the beautiful mausoleum that now takes its place.  We stay the night in La Higuera, a tiny town where Che was held prisoner and later executed.  There is a great, rustic, little hotel built in the local style using adobe bricks and mud roof tiles.

Day 4 La Higuera – Sucre  Today we head for “the White City”, Sucre.  Officially Bolivia’s capital city, Sucre is also a World Heritage Site.

Day 5 Rest Day in Sucre A day off to enjoy all the great things Sucre has to offer.  Top of the list would have to be the world class indigineous art museum.  Take a stroll down the wide avenues, enjoy the relaxing central plaza, visit the other museums – whatever takes your fancy. There is plenty to see and do here.

Day 6 Sucre – Potosi  A great ride through excellent winding roads sees us arrive in Potosi – perhaps Bolivia’s most infamous city on account of its tin and silver mining.  We’ll arrive nice and early leaving time for a visit into the mines or perhaps the country’s mint.

Day 7 Potosi – Salar de Uyuni  Today we’ll head to the world famous “Salar de Uyuni” or “Salt Plains.

Day 8 Day on Salar Is there a feeling more amazing than riding on the salt plains?  Close your eyes and see how long you can ride without sight.  Let’s enjoy a delicious picnic on this unique landscape.

Day 9  Uyuni – Oruro A fun dirt road for the first half, followed by an easy paved end to the day sees us arrive in Oruro.

Day 10  Oruro – Cochabamba  A special treat is in store for our final day.  We follow a long abandoned railway where it seems time stopped the day the train stopped coming through.  Old water tanks can be seen along the railway, stations and other rail buildings are still standing, and the people living in the towns are delighted to see us.
